USES OF GRAFFITI

The Different uses Of Graffiti

In this section I will discuss the uses of graffiti in many different sectors.

Many companies are using graffiti as a means of advertisement.

Pfizer Commercial
A
pharmaceutical corporation known as Pfizer uses graffiti in a commercial during their campaign "More Than Medication". In this commercial a teenage boy is seen spraying on various parts of the wall of a particular alley. The boy then arrives home to be greeted whit his mum looking at him with disapproval. He grabs a vase full of flowers and enters into the bedroom of what seems to be his sick sister. Her situation looks to be critical as she is hooked up to various medical machines. Here the teenager open the curtains and the girl looks out to see a the words "be brave" in graffiti and ends with his mother thanking him. Veronica Piacek, customer director for the company, stated the idea behind this is to show that there is more to health than medication and that the family of the sick must be there for them during this difficult journey.

Red Bull Commercial
Red Bull use a different form of graffiti that I never knew about before. They hired a crew of graffiti artists known as the 'Agents of Change' to use a graffiti technique called L.A.S.E.R Tag Graffiti and "draw" on the building opposite the MI6 building. They used a laser pointer to "draw" on the building. An infrared camera tracks the movement of the laser pointer transmits it to a software on a laptop and then its projected on the building.

Bayer, a medical company decided to use graffiti to advertise their pill called Aspirin 500. There are cartoonish characters drawn out side of the billboard as is they are holding it therefore giving them headaches, backaches, and muscular pain. The idea here was that by using graffiti, people look at the advert in shock thinking it is vandalism, until they realize its part of the advert.

Fashion
Although graffiti is controversial, there is no denying it is an interesting art form which grabs the attention of many who pass by it. It is nothing out of the ordinary that fashion uses this cultural phenomena for our clothes and accessories.
FAFI
In 2010 Fafi, a French artist teamed up with Adidas and created shoe designs inspired by graffiti.

Fafi also uses walls as her "catwalk" as she spray paints girls with very different, brightly coloured clothes, all unique to her style.
Banksy Merchandise
www.banksytshirts.org/ is a website which sells t-shirts and other items with Banksy's artworks printed on them.

Entertainment

Malta Street Art Festival
This is an annual celebration, held in Sliema and also Valletta (in 2015), where local and foreign graffiti artists spray paint beautiful art works during the festival. I personally attended one myself in 2015 and I enjoyed watching the artist patiently drawing these artworks.
